11 Things You Didn't Know About Diamond Dallas Page
3. Flair Buried Him. Then They Made Up
In Ric Flair’s book he went after quite a few people in the wrestling industry, one of them happened to be The People's Champion. He said that Page's "climb to the top will go down in history as one of the biggest jokes ever perpetrated on our industry. The guy was an average wrestler and an average talker with a bunch of tattoos that did nothing to win over fans", and that he was a millionaire "simply because he was Bischoff's neighbor." Ouch.
Oh yeah, also "When Page finally got the title after hitting me with his Diamond Cutter, it was an insult to everything I'd learned from men like Verne Gagne and Wahoo McDaniel."
Some of this harshness may be due to Page believing that earlier in his career Flair was holding him back, so there was already a bit of heat between them. Whatever it was, the two didn't seem to see eye-to-eye during their WCW tenure.
Years later on his podcast, Flair seemed to walk back those comments. However, part of the reason why he may have been so strangely hostile towards Page in his book is that Mark Madden was a co-author on it, and he’s notoriously not been a fan of DDP and labeled him “D-D-Me” (he also claims that Page got him fired form his announcing job in WCW).
Due to Page’s positivity, he sought out to make nice with Flair and to put their issues behind them. Years later he ran into the 16 time world champion at a convention and offered to start over fresh. He reached out his hand and re-introduced himself to The Nature Boy. Flair accepted the handshake, and the two appear to be on friendly terms these days.
