11 Things You Didn't Know About WWE Money In The Bank

8. The Sad Story Of Mr. Kennedy (Kennedy)

19 men and three women have won the Money in the Bank briefcase, with the overwhelming majority going on to successfully cash-in on a vulnerable champion. Holding the briefcase does not guarantee a world championship, but it does promise the holder an opportunity, at the very least.

Unless your name is Mr. Kennedy. To this day, the then-brash upstart remains the only winner of the match who has failed to even attempt a cash-in, dropping the briefcase to Edge just a month after winning the thing. Why did that happen? Well, Kennedy’s run of bad luck continued as he got injured at the worst possible time, scuppering what looked like an inevitable run as a main event superstar.

The history of Money in the Bank throws up lots of "what if?"s, that most beloved of fantasy booking tropes. Few are as intriguing as Mr. Kennedy. A Money in the Bank winner who didn’t even get the chance to cash the briefcase in, Kennedy was also slated to be the illegitimate son of Vince McMahon, but suspension scuppered that. He enjoyed major feud after major feud and looked like a shoo-in to become a main event heel for years to come. Alas, history is a cruel mistress.
