11 Things You Didn't Know About WWE Money In The Bank

7. Maryse Making History

WWE has a pretty poor track record when it comes to women and the Money in the Bank ladder match. The promotion could get everything right from here to eternity, but having James Ellsworth climb the ladder and retrieve the briefcase in the first women’s MitB ladder match is a stain that will forever tarnish the whole thing. As far as missteps go, that takes some beating.

Just five women took part in that match, but none of them can lay claim to being the first woman to climb the Money in the Bank ladder. That honour goes to Mrs. Miz herself, the magnificent Maryse. The former Divas Champion did so in 2010 when she was paired up with Ted DiBiase Jr. The two had about as much chemistry as chalk and cheese, but there was a brief moment when the Quebec native was just a couple of rungs away from giving her charge the keys to the kingdom.

It wasn’t to be, and DiBiase’s career was over before it began. The winner of that ladder match? The Miz, of course. History is a magnificent beast.
