11 Times Wrestlers Bet On Themselves (... And LOST!)
2. CM Punk Tries To Become An Ultimate Fighter
Back in 2014, 'The Best in the World' was unquestionably done with the wrestling business.
A frustrating end to his time inside of the WWE bubble left him wanting to be as far away from the industry as possible.
And with CM Punk not getting any younger at the time of his departure and the UFC offering him the chance to step inside the Octagon, 'The Voice of the Voiceless' finally decided to throw his all into becoming a professional MMA fighter instead.
Unfortunately for the Punker, though, as he'd eventually reveal to Renee Paquette on her Sessions podcast, he soon discovered that he was in fact too old for this shoot fighting stuff - with gloves on, at least.
Unlike the freak of nature that is Brock Lesnar, Punk didn't take to MMA like a duck to water.
He was steamrolled by both Mickey Gall and Mike Jackson in his two professional bouts before ultimately retiring from MMA in favour of an epic return to pro-wrestling in 2021.
It takes some serious guts to take such an insane risk at 36-years-old, it must be said (though the eye-watering paydays likely took the edge off). But this gamble on becoming the latest WWE star to successfully kick ass inside of the cage sadly just ended up becoming one of the more embarrassing chapters in the CM Punk story.
