11 Times Wrestlers Bet On Themselves (... And LOST!)
1. EC3 Controls His Narrative
There was a time there when it honestly looked like EC3 had all the makings of a genuine next top WWE talent.
He had that god-like physique that transformed Vince McMahon into his own meme, was decent enough in-between the ropes, could hold his own on the stick, and definitely possessed enough charisma to survive at the top of the card.
But things just never really worked out for the 'Top One Percent' on WWE programming, with the cocky soul bafflingly being turned into a largely mute character in the wake of being called up from NXT.
EC3 inevitably found himself among the wave of sudden WWE releases in April 2020. However, instead of following many of his former colleagues to various other promotions, the former TNA World Heavyweight Champion felt like betting on himself... and controlling his own narrative!
Admittedly, a group of irritated performers coming together to create their own company isn't a terrible idea on paper.
But it soon became apparent that this promotion full of angry "IN CONTROL!" dudes fighting not their opponent, but themselves - all while not being allowed to unleash forbidden superkicks, suicide dives, and Canadian Destroyers - was being aimed at a very specific audience.
Unsurprisingly, the departures of the likes of Karrion Kross and Braun Strowman - who both returned to WWE in 2022 - were moves the questionable Fight Club inspired promotion struggled to cope with, and EC3's often uncomfortable attempt to control his own narrative has been rather quiet ever since.
