10. DVR Viewing Habits
Another circumstance that is completely out of the hands of WWE is the way DVRs have changed our viewing habits. The technology to record our favorite shows is nothing new, but the DVR has streamlined it into a much smoother process as opposed to the old days of VCR programming that you needed a degree from M.I.T. and a stack of clunky VHS tapes for. DVR viewership is still factored in under the Live Plus numbers, but theres no doubt that it causes a huge hit in their live ratings, as well as the perception of importance attached to the show. Not only that, but advertising rights are typically sold based on first-run viewership numbers because companies are aware that DVR viewers are fast-forwarding through the commercials. Sports are the only type of programming that is considered DVR-proof because of the live nature of the games, and WWE likes to place itself in that category when convenient. But with sports, the outcome of a game is always in question, whereas thats not usually the case with WWE. Which leads me to my next point
