3. There's No Consequences For Anything
This is another negative effect of the three hour shows, but no matter what happens, WWE seems to go back and hit the rest button while maintaining the status quo. There was a collective thrill that swept across the fan base this time last year when Team Cena's Dolph Ziggler vanquished The Authority and removed them from power "forever" at Survivor Series. Some of us foolishly thought we were seeing the dawn of a new creative direction. We're idiots. Within a few short weeks things were right back to normal with Triple H and Stephanie resuming their roles as heel authority figures, a trope that's over a decade past its expiration date. That's the most prominent example, but it's just one of many. Retirement matches, firings, end of an era showdowns - NOTHING is permanent. WWE can tack on any stipulation they want and we shrug it off because we're fully aware that none of it matters. It's frustrating as a fan and it insults our intelligence. And yet this is just another symptom of overexposure, because when you have so many hours of weekly TV to fill, how can they be expected to promise that John Cena and Randy Orton are facing each other for the final time? If you're not going to make your own stipulations stick, don't bother even trying to sell them to us. No one is buying.
