11 United States Champions (Who Didn't Come From America)

6. Rusev

The current reigning and defending United States Champion, Rusev began his second reign by effectively snapping Kallisto in half this past Sunday at WWE Extreme Rules.

Unfortunately, there is a prevailing feeling that Rusev has been given the strap again in order to create the most American of moments on Memorial Day next Monday, as Captain America (sorry, John Cena), returns to win the US Championship.

Rusev was born on Christmas Day in the city of Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Plovdiv is actually the second-largest city in the country and a pretty darn nice one to boot. The former Alexander is the only man from Eastern Europe to win the United States Championship, which is surprising given the Cold War history and pro wrestling's love of playing off real-life events.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
