11 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Double Or Nothing 2020

7. Statlander vs. Ford Overdelivers

Kris Statlander
AEW

Kris Statlander was facing Britt Baker until a suspected torn ACL suffered when Nyla Rose was powerbombed onto her knee on Dynamite forced her to pull out, leaving us with an exhibition match instead. A shame, as Baker’s tremendous heel character work deserved a pay-per-view spot. A potential 6-9 month absence now beckons.

Baker will give an update on her condition on next week's Dynamite, but Ford and Statlander shone in her absence. This was a good, high-effort match that delivered beyond modest pre-show expectations, highlighted by 'The Galaxy's Greatest Alien's' best AEW performance to date.

Yes, the gimmick is goofy, but there's nothing goofy about her wrestling when she clicks into gear. Though Statlander has a tendency to overstretch herself leading to botches, she stuck to what she does best against 'The Superbad Girl': power, strikes, and Matrix escapes. The result was a solid midcard scrap marred only by some Ford strikes that weren't laid in as hard as they could've been, though Statlander was excellent.
