11 Ups & 1 Down From AEW Fyter Fest 2021 Night 1

3. Sammy Guevara's Home State Pop

AEW scores screamers, but they don't mess around on the edge of the box. When there's a tap in to lash home, they lash that ball in the net.

AEW - and it's so f*cked that this is somehow the exception in mainstream wrestling - scored a tap-in by handing home state hero Sammy Guevara a quick, exciting win over the impressive technical prospect Wheeler YUTA. There was no storyline purpose to the match, so it was allocated just 03:44 accordingly. The action was exhilarating while it lasted, the purpose clever. Or not so much clever, but crushingly obvious.

Without exhausting the TV audience on a predictable match for a match's sake, AEW charmed the local market into - and this is wild - potentially purchasing a ticket for the next visit. That Guevara got over so big here allowed the TV audience to infer that he's a big deal, so it wasn't a glorified house show moment.

It is inexplicable that this felt unusual.
