11 Ups & 10 Downs For Impact Wrestling In 2020
6. What's Up With Tenille?
When Tenille Dashwood initially returned to Impact Wrestling in the latter half of 2019, the future looked bright for the former Emma. The Aussie star was challenging for the Knockouts Championship on the biggest show of the Impact calendar - Bound For Glory - against Taya Valkyrie, and although she failed in her title conquest, Dashwood had a terrific showing in the process.
Coming into 2020, Tenille was still fairly high up on the card, and even secured a pinfall over 'Wera Loca' on the final Impact Wrestling show in front of a live audience. Keep in mind, Taya was just out of her history-making Knockouts Championship reign at this point, making this win a genuinely important moment in Tenille's Impact career.
Then, the ongoing global b*stard kicked in.
Upon returning to the company at the beginning of September, it looked like the company were intent on keeping Dashwood high up in the knockouts division. You see, she returned by interrupting Jordynne Grace and the new champion Deonna Purrazzo during the latter's Black Tie Affair celebration. Instead, though, she embroiled in a meaningless rivalry with Grace, now flanked by personal photographer Kaleb With A K - a minor Down for his existence as a whole. The matches themself were fine, but nothing earth-shattering. Positioning her as Deonna's next title challenger seemed like an easy move.
Her character quite simplistic when you think about it. She only cares for herself (and through association, Kaleb), hence her motto of it being all about her. There's still time to completely overhaul Tenille's persona, mind you, but the longer D'Amore and Callis wait to pull the trigger on her, the more damage will have been done. Matches with Alisha Edwards as of late haven't been doing anyone any favours in the long run.
