11 Ups & 10 Downs For Impact Wrestling In 2020
3. That's (Really) Bad
Okay, we should preface this by saying that, for a while, the Susie schtick was a tad entertaining. It was a stark contrast compared to what we had seen from her as Su Yung previously, and while the Susie character was nothing special in the ring, she was able to offer something unique to the knockouts division.
In saying that, though, it went on for far longer than it ever needed to.
Su Yung's absence from television was extremely noticeable. Written off at the hands of Havok in early March, Susie's debut truly came out of nowhere as it was unclear in what direction Impact would be taking the former Knockouts Champion down afterwards. Her alliance with Kylie Rae held 'Smiley Kylie' back for the most part, her matches were almost always passable, and the fact she was picking up wins over Taya Valkyrie, Rosemary, and Deonna Purrazzo, albeit in multi-woman affairs, was a total shambles.
Bringing Su Yung back at Bound For Glory when Kylie Rae was unable to make her scheduled match was a sensible choice, and followed nicely after Susie was taken offscreen at Victory Road three weeks prior. Spending less than a month as Knockouts Champion, and then again being written off when she was kidnapped by her own undead bridesmaids, though, was beyond the worst booking choice for her post-Deonna fued.
It's worth mentioning that both her Bound For Glory and Turning Point clashes with 'The Virtuosa' were great matches, but because of the booking she's suffered since returning, Su Yung now comes across as a joke more often than not, something that was easily avoidable.
