11 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Aug 5)

2. Orange Crush

Chris Jericho Orange Cassidy
AEW

Orange Cassidy and Chris Jericho's debate was a fantastic segment and one of the best moments of their feud so far.

The first couple of questions saw Jericho maul 'Freshly Squeezed' on the microphone, running him down for his shoddy appearance, lackadaisical attitude, and flash-in-the-pan popularity. Cassidy was dead silent until the third question. From there, he launched into an in-depth scientific breakdown on global warming and rising sea levels, red-facing Jericho after 'Le Champion' had refused to answer, but it wasn't until the fifth question that Cassidy truly came to life.

This was a level of verbal fire AEW fans haven't seen from OC yet. Tired of Jericho's bullsh*t, he said this was the biggest match of his career and Chris', asking what it would look like for 'The Demo God' to lose to "the guy who puts his hands in his pockets." "Look at the man who is going to embarrass you, look at the man who is going to beat you," he said, and this, coupled with the environmentalism, was enough to give OC the victory.

Cue: Jericho flipping out, him and Hager beating the tar out of Cassidy, and Best Friends making the save.

Dismissing Orange Cassidy as a mere shtick merchant has become an untenable position. This started becoming the case when he wrestled PAC at Revolution, but his character has only grown since then as well, putting him in a great spot ahead of next week's rematch.
