11 Ups & 2 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Aug 5)

1. Moxley & Allin Tell Their Story

Jon Moxley Darby Allin
AEW

The tone established in Jon Moxley's promo continued through his main event with Darby Allin, as the AEW World Champion put down a wrestler he sees as a reflection of the man he used to be.

Allin is equal to Moxley in a lot of ways, though their differences defined the opening stages. Physically, Darby was no match for Mox, so he answered the Puervyor of Violence's pummeling with speed and reckless torpedoing. This got him launched off the stage and straight into the ring post. Moxley then grounded Allin during the break but not permanently, as Darby hit a big flip dive to the outside after crushing Jon's hand atop the ring post. All this came prior to the inevitable MJF interference as 'The Salt of the Earth' busted Moxley open with the World Title. He'd rather face Allin than Moxley at All Out, though his efforts were ultimately undone, as Mox put Darby away with a sleeper, Gotch-Style Piledriver, and Paradigm Shift.

That Allin refused to die following the Piledriver proved Moxley was right early on. This guy isn't going to stop until he breathes no more, and while Jon didn't have to inflict permanent damage to walk away with the title, he still did what was necessary.

The champ cradling Darby in his arms after the bell tells us this story is far from finished.
