11 Ups & 2 Downs From IMPACT Wrestling (14 Oct)
5. Who's That Guy?
Christian Cage and Josh Alexander's Bound For Glory Summit was the right segment for them, though it perhaps shouldn't have ended the episode. That aside, they were both excellent in their character work throughout, and even Josh Mathews wasn't unbearable, so it's a win-win situation.
The actual premise of this added to the whole scenario. It was promoted as going down before the actual broadcast began, hence the ring ropes weren't in place and the venue was empty. Cage, Alexander, and Mathews sat in the ring on bar stools, creating a nice visual away from the norm.
Christian elaborated on his return to pro wrestling, Josh explained his reasoning behind vacating the X Division Title while maintaining its prestige, and so on and so forth. Notably, the 'Instant Classic' explained how he saw the same hunger in Alexander that he himself possessed, before the feed cut to a clip from an AEW fan event, where the World Champion proclaimed to not know who Josh was.
This ended the segment perfectly. Christian insisted it was him ribbing Josh, but Josh had none of it. He left, infuriated. It was the only right way for the segment to end; they shouldn't get physical until Bound For Glory. Thus, having Josh show a bit of anger ahead of the match is the right avenue to go down.
