11 Ups & 3 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Sep 9)

5. It's About To Get Ugly

Jon Moxley
AEW

There was no big angle from Jon Moxley and Lance Archer last night, though the program was built through two great promos from both sides, setting us up for what will surely be an ugly, ugly fight on Dynamite's anniversary special.

Jake Roberts was back on form this week, saying there was never a doubt in his or Lance's mind that they'd get to this point, before handing over to his monster. An adept talker himself (and someone who doesn't really need a mouthpiece), Archer was menacing. Sick of Mox's reign, he said the champ had nothing but time to prepare for everyone he'd faced so far, but will have nothing but despair when they meet. Everybody dies, mates.

Moxley, meanwhile, was his usual badass self, claiming challengers had to crawl through a pile of crap then climb a mountain at the end to become World Champion. He feels unstoppable, apparently, saying Archer needs to ask himself one simple question: "do you really want to bet against me right now?"

Signs of arrogance creeping in, perhaps? If so, that's an easy way to tell the story of Moxley's loss to Archer, should AEW take that route.
