11 Ups & 4 Downs For Impact Wrestling In 2020 (So Far)
3. Simply Undeniable
It may not have ended in ideal circumstances, but Tessa Blanchard's run as the Impact World Champion will forever live on in the history books, and for good reason.
Capturing the strap from arch-rival Sami Callihan at the Hard To Kill pay-per-view on 12 January was the conclusion to months of stellar work from the pair of them throughout their entire rivalry. Impact did an outstanding job with regards to the Callihan vs. Blanchard saga as near enough every single segment and match involving the pair during this time left you craving more of them together. Their Slammiversary main event last July was superb from bell to bell, and while the rivalry very easily could have ended there, the fact we would return to it after Bound For Glory with the top prize on offer speaks volumes for how well stories are told within Impact Wrestling.
As it pertains to the third-generation star, her reign on its own wasn't overly memorable. In her 165 days as champion, Tessa only made one successful defence of the title against Taya Valkyrie, which again made history as the first Knockouts match in Impact history to be contested for the World Championship. Despite only having a single defence of the title in her six months as champion, Tessa was most at home with the gold around her waist. Nothing about it felt forced as she had spent close to seven months being positioned as the top star in the company. No longer just the top Knockout, the top wrestler period.
Had the reign ended in an actual match, then we would have had far more to talk about with regards to Tessa's time on top. What lies ahead for 'The Undeniable' remains to be seen.
