11 Ups & 4 Downs For Impact Wrestling In 2020 (So Far)
1. New Year, Same Situation
This was a problem for Impact Wrestling last year, and sadly, the tradition has continued into 2020. Their Impact Plus/Twitch specials still don't really blend into the main shows as much as they should do.
These special events promoted under the Impact banner typically happen countless times a year, with far more of these shows compared to actual pay-per-views. While there have been a handful of times when matches scheduled for those specials have been promoted on the main Impact programming, such as Tessa Blanchard and Ace Austin's showdown at February's Sacrifice show, it doesn't happen as much as it needs to in order to attract more fans to the product. In fact, Impact aren't shilling their on-demand service as much as they should full stop. Tweeting about it simply isn't enough; it needs to be mentioned on-air.
Furthermore, before the world came to a standstill, one of Impact's scheduled specials for the end of March was Lockdown. Why would they bring back one of their most talked about pay-per-views, and not use it as one of their biggest events of the year? Should they come back to reschedule the steel cage extravaganza for a later date, it absolutely needs to be a pay-per-view rather than a random special that won't be mentioned ever again. Doing the latter would simply be a waste of an idea.
It's a shame the specials don't get the recognition they deserve. Some of the cards for the events appear to be stellar from top to bottom.
