11 Ups & 5 Downs From Last Night's WWE SmackDown (Jul 16)

3. Revolving Door: Redux

Shane McMahon town hall meeting
WWE.com

This week's SmackDown treated us to the ultimate revolving door talking segment, as Shane McMahon invited the entire SmackDown roster (sans Kevin Owens, whom he'd already kicked out) to the ring for a Town Hall Meeting.

It was a chance for the locker-room to their air their grievances or plant their flag in Shane's corner. Thus, we got Roman Reigns telling the former Commissioner to kiss his ass, Charlotte Flair sucking up, Liv Morgan (remember her?) calling 'The Queen' fake in her first televised appearance in over three months, Buddy Murphy claiming he can fight his own battles, and a bunch of other guff. It was tedious in the extreme.

While the segment's conclusion worked, it was a slog to the finish. The opening 10 minutes were pure fluff. We got a couple of matches out of it, sure, but the vehicle in which they were delivered was just a bunch of talking heads with nothing interesting to say, and that's never fun to watch.

Let's hope that Mr. Bischoff has some new ideas for these things.
