This is another match where WWE have just forced together too many guys in an effort to get everyone on the Mania card. The truth is, the IC Title match would have been far more entertaining if it was just Owens versus Zayn. There's a history to that rivalry, and they could have produced a special match on the big stage. Instead, the same old ladder match formula will play out. It will be just like last year, a big spot here, a big spot there, and then someone climbing up to win it. It is entertaining, sure, but when you look at the line up of wrestlers involved it is underwhelming. Zack Ryder? The Miz? Sin Cara? It isn't about entertaining, it is just about getting them on the card. For the result, Sami Zayn winning the belt expands his feud with Owens. He came up from NXT to gain revenge on his old nemesis, and winning the belt at Mania is just that. They can then have the one on one feud for the strap over the coming months.
