11 WWE Wrestlers Who Lived The Gimmick In Real Life

5. Bret Hart

The gimmick:

Simply put, Bret Hart’s gimmick was that of a very serious Canadian pro wrestler—and a seriously good one to boot.

To really drive the point home, his nicknames included the 'Excellence of Execution', while he also often reminded us that he was the 'best here is, the best there was, the best there ever will be'. I’m sure you get the point by now...

On top of being one of the best workers WWE has seen, Hart backed up those claims with his championship haul—a pair of Intercontinental and Tag Team titles as well as five World Championship wins—making for a Hall-of-Fame-caliber career.

In real life:

One criticism sometimes leveled at Hart is that he might’ve, occasionally, taken his gimmick a little too seriously.

Scott Hall once described Hart’s house as a “shrine to the Hitman” while he once famously took umbrage to the idea of losing his WWF Championship to Shawn Michaels in Montreal, on the basis that he shouldn’t be losing in his home country.

In some ways, it was ultimately that dedication to the gimmick in real life that proved to be a factor in his exit from the company.
