12 Actors Who Could Totally Play WWE Superstars In Movies

4. Bobby Cannavale As Randy Savage

Who hasn't the Macho Man feuded with? The array of supporting characters alone is enough reason to get this movie made.

The fanboy inside me would want them to recreate the entirety of the Savage vs. Steamboat Wrestlemania 3 match, in one long take, as an homage. It's probably silly to dedicate one-third of your movie to a single bout, but the behind-the-scenes of that match would depict Savage's OCD-level of meticulousness. He made Steamboat verbally rehearse every move in that match--and the exact order in which they were to be done--for months beforehand. That's the kind of character study rarely shown in sports biopics.

Savage is, no doubt, one of the most captivating, larger-than-life Superstars the WWE has ever produced. So the first instinct when casting someone for the part is to go with an established Hollywood star.

That's trouble, because it's difficult to reconcile someone like Johnny Depp in the role of Randy Savage. "It's just Johnny Depp in a different hat," they'd say. Better to go with an actor who's flown under the radar, but has the look and credentials to come out of nowhere.

Bobby Cannavale not only has a fitting background (Italian American, just like Randy Poffo), but a wide and varied acting history, both in film and on the stage. Theater experience, and being used to performing live, always helps when playing wrestlers.
