Before Jay Lethal could bask in the glory of his Final Battle win, he was interrupted by Cody’s fellow Elite member Marty Scurll. The Villain -- who successfully defended his championship opportunity earlier in the night -- snatched Lethal’s World belt and officially challenged for the gold. Throwing a wrench into the mix, however, was the current NWA Worlds' Champion Nick Aldis who appeared in the entranceway and mockingly applauded.
What Nick’s intent was is unclear, but perhaps the so-called “National Treasure” is looking to join the championship fray in Ring Of Honor. Or maybe he’s not interested in the ROH World title at all -- feeling his own NWA Worlds' belt to be superior to Lethal's title. Jay has plenty of experience as a fighting champion, but that track record will be put to the test in 2019.
He will likely have to once again contend with Matt Taven down the line, but in the meantime, Scurll is already on the docket for a future title shot. And with the possible addition of Nick Aldis to the mix given his puzzling actions, the next year is going to be a long road ahead for the reigning ROH champion.
