12 Biggest Stories From The Crockett Cup And What The NWA's Future Holds

11. International Stars Fail To Pass Opening Round

The first bout of the Cup's opening round saw one of Ring of Honor's newest and most exciting signees, Bandido, team with Flip Gordon to overcome CMLL's Stuka Jr. and Guerrero Maya Jr. All four of the high-flying stars took to the sky in arguably the tournament's most exciting bout. Planchas, topes, springboards, and tilt-a-whirls were abound, and despite a close call following a Mayan Sacrifice from Guerrero, the veteran lucha team was eliminated following a Star-Spangled Stunner from Flip Gordon.

Later in the first round, fans saw another new tandem from Ring of Honor battle two of New Japan Pro Wrestling's most respected veterans. PCO and Brody King - representing Marty Scurll's Villain Enterprises - managed to overcome Satoshi Kojima and Yuji Nagata. The Japanese legends lit up King and PCO with chops and lariats early on, but the Villains proved unstoppable with their own barrage of suicide dives, corner cannonballs, and eventually an All Seeing Eye driver from King.
