12 Biggest Stories From The Crockett Cup And What The NWA's Future Holds

10. Rock 'N' Roll Express Thrill While Unknown Duo Shock

Also on hand for the tournament was the Rock 'n' Roll Express - who competed in two prior Cups three decades ago. Unfortunately for the ever-popular and legendary duo, they were mercilessly beatdown by ROH's winningest tag team, the Briscoe Brothers of Mark and Jay. Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson fought hard at the opening bell, pulling out dropkicks and even a hurricanrana from Morton. The Briscoes regained control shortly thereafter, sending Ricky careening into the ringpost - leaving his face a bloodied mess. Eventually, a Death Valley Driver from Mark and a flying elbow from Jay sent the tournament's elder statesmen packing.

The most shocking moment of the first round - and possibly of the entire tournament - came when The War Kings of Jax Dane and Crimson went up against the Wildcard duo of Royce Isaacs and Thomas Latimer. Despite winning the opening battle royal, Isaacs and Latimer were the clear underdogs as many fans expected The War Kings to not only go far but perhaps win the entire Cup. Instead, Dane and Crimson were eliminated when Isaacs used the ropes for leverage on a rollup to capture the win and allow his team to advance on.
