12 Duos That Helped Changed Tag Team Wrestling Forver

9. The Hardy Boys

There are few tag teams that could define the words €˜innovative€™, €˜exciting€™ and €˜risk-takers€™ more than the Hardys. Because they were much smaller than the average tag team in WWE at the time, they had to compensate for their lack of stature with a style that defined the term €˜larger than life€™. The Hardys, especially Jeff, were among the biggest pioneers of high-risk style. During their peak years as a team, they took part in some of the most dangerous and memorable matches in WWE history. These matches, which include the TLC series and Triangle Ladder matches, elevated the Hardys to unprecedented popularity, which in turn translated into considerable success. They became six-time WWE World Tag Team Champions, and their incredible popularity served as a launching pad for Jeff€™s main event career. As a team, they were responsible for setting a standard for high-flying action that was very hard to achieve. Although many teams, such as Billy Kidman & Paul London and Air Boom, tried to emulate the Hardys€™ success by focusing on a high-flying style, it was their lack of risks that prevented those teams from achieving similar popularity as the Hardys. Because of Matt & Jeff€™s willingness to put their bodies through extreme levels of danger and punishment, the WWE audience saw them as determined underdogs.Subsequent teams, however, can€™t do what the Hardys did in the TLC or Triangle Ladder matches (for obvious reasons), and so the lack of a true €˜high-risk€™ team in WWE has left many wondering if the Hardys will ever return to WWE.
