12 Duos That Helped Changed Tag Team Wrestling Forver

8. The Rockers

From 1985 to 1992, the Rockers, Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty, were one of the most well-known and impressive tag team in North America. Their similar looks, exciting wrestling style and cool look made them big draws wherever they went. Their chemistry with one another and with other tag teams translated into considerable success, which included Tag Team Championships in the NWA, AWA and CWA. However, despite their success as a tag team, the Rockers€™ biggest legacy in tag team wrestling is what happens when a tag team splits up. Ever since they were first created, tag teams served as a way of seeing which stars could eventually become singles stars. That approach was followed to full effect with the Rockers, as their teaming together led to Shawn Michaels€™ rise to singles superstardom. However, in a somewhat cruel twist of fate, it also served to ruin the career of Marty Jannetty. So while Shawn Michaels became not only a multi-time World Champion in WWE and made a legacy for himself as one of the best wrestlers to ever lace up a pair of wrestling boots, Marty Jannetty€™s career floundered afterwards, and he faded into borderline obscurity afterwards. To this day, the term €˜the Shawn Michaels and the Marty Jannetty€™ is used to describe what happens to members of a tag team after they split up, with the former becoming the big star and the latter€™s career falling into irrelevance. This has been used to describe the careers of many wrestlers, including John Morrison and Joey Mercury, Edge & Christian, the Spirit Squad, and many other teams that sought to make it big as a group.
