12 Duos That Helped Changed Tag Team Wrestling Forver

6. The Fabulous Freebirds

The Fabulous Freebirds: There have been few tag teams as transformative as the Freebirds. The group, composed of Michael €˜P.S.€™ Hayes, Terry €˜Bam Bam€™ Gordy, Buddy €˜Jack€™ Roberts, and Himmy Garvin, created one of the best and most memorable stables in wrestling history. The concept of a €˜three-man gang€™ was, at the time, a unique concept that hadn€™t been tried before. But they made it work by adding new dynamics and strategies that forever changed the landscape of tag team wrestling. As a €˜three-man gang€™, their interactions changed the entire dynamic of traditional tag teams. The €˜Freebird Rule€™, as it has come to be known, allows for rotating members of a group of three or more to take part in matches and defend tag team titles. Several famous groups and stables have gone on to adopt this rule to make better use of their numbers, including Demolition, the Wolfpac, and most recently, the New Day. However, this rule, made famous by a tag team-oriented group, has also been applied to singles titles, as seen by co-IC champions Chyna and Chris Jericho, and when 3-Count were all the WCW Hardcore Champion. The Freebirds rose to prominence during the Territories era, and so they experienced considerable success in multiple promotions. Needless to say, their creativity and influence on how larger groups behave in wrestling has become one of the few creations in wrestling that has withstood the test of time, and has been emulated several times.
