12 Exact Moments WWE Titles Became Worthless
10. Titus O’Neil Picks Up The 24/7 Belt
Trust 2019 WWE to take something that had worked a generation before but turn it into one of the worst rehashes ever. On the 20 May 2019 edition of Raw, a beaming Mick Foley announced the new 24/7 Title (based on the old Hardcore Title's semi-permanent around the clock rule). Then, Mick invited a bunch of lower tier stars to the ring so they could literally fight to hold it.
Titus O'Neil was crowned the first 24/7 Champ because he managed to pick the thing up off the mat and hold it for longer than a split second. A jealous Robert Roode then pinned Titus immediately afterwards and hid backstage so nobody could find him. Not very glorious, and it was hardly thrilling television. Sure, everybody understood what the company was going for here, but it fell flatter than O'Neil during a Greatest Royal Rumble entrance.
Being fair, R-Truth did do everything in his power to make something of the comedy title after that. It was an uphill struggle he was never going to win. Nobody took the 24/7 belt seriously (how could they?!), and it's no shocker that Triple H couldn't wait to toss it aside after seizing control of the product in 2022. That title was DOA, man.
People were staring around in disbelief upon seeing the actual design, then things impossibly got worse as a bunch of midcarders scrapped over the biscuit tin lid like it was precious cargo. If it wasn't for Truth's efforts, then 24/7 would've been binned in three months, never mind nearly three years.
Next time, please don't bother.
