12 Huge WWE Dream Matches That Were Supposed To Happen But Didn’t

1. Steve Austin Vs Hulk Hogan (WrestleMania X8)

Yep, it's Steve Austin again. This time 'The Texas Rattlesnake' rejected the chance to square off with Hulk Hogan in 2002 in what would have surely been the biggest WrestleMania match of all time. Hogan and Austin are two icons of professional wrestling and two rare examples of wrestlers crossing over into the mainstream. Even people who have no interest in WWE probably would have bought the pay-per-view to see this epic clash of the titans. Hogan wanted the match, Vince wanted the match and the fans wanted the match. But Austin wanted no part of it. Austin (who as this article has established was burnt out in 2002) felt that the match wouldn't deliver in the ring and he didn't want to let anyone down. He was also wary of Hogan's show-stealing tactics. Despite being a heel, Hogan would try to do everything to elicit cheers on the big stage and Austin didn't feel like being overshadowed. Stone Cold took on Scott Hall in a forgettable midcard clash while The Rock and Hogan stole the show in a match that should have went on last. Nobody could follow that. Austin versus Hogan has been hinted at several times since but it has never developed into anything significant. What other WWE dream matches nearly happened but got cancelled at the last minute?
