7. Dolph Ziggler vs. Alberto Del Rio - World Heavyweight Title Match - Payback 2013

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZO71AbmZ7S4 Few matches took fans on more of an emotional roller coaster in 2013 than the World Heavyweight Championship match between Dolph Ziggler and Alberto Del Rio. Ziggler had cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase and finally captured the heavyweight title that had eluded him for so long the night after WrestleMania 29. It was one of the shining moments of the entire year and many thought it would lead to that long awaited main event run he more-than deserved. Unfortunately, a severe concussion sidelined him for well over a month and his title reign suffered significantly as a result. Del Rio had earn his match against Ziggler by defeating Jack Swagger at Extreme Rules in an "I Quit" match. Enjoying a renaissance as a babyface, he was quite hot as he entered the Allstate Arena in suburban Chicago for this match. The crowd, however, rejected Del Rio and threw their support behind Ziggler, who worked hard for everything he got and did not benefit from as many main event pushes as Del Rio. The story of the match is paramount to its quality. Del Rio, desperate to regain his championship, attacked early and often, targeting the head of Ziggler without remorse. The referee repeatedly checked on the champion, but the aggressive Del Rio refused to give Ziggler any room to breathe, staying on top of him and pounding away at his head. As he did so, the crowd's support for Ziggler only grew and the commentators began building sympathy for the champion. Ziggler would make several valiant attempts at a comeback, including a Zig Zag that he was unable to capitalize on, but his storybook ending was not to be. Del Rio finished him off with a stiff sidekick to the head and pinned him to regain the title. The match was storyline executed to perfection. Del Rio's relentless attack on the head only made the boos intensify throughout the match. Ziggler, a man that fans had watched climb up the ladder for so long only to have injury and the creative team take the title away from him, was clearly emotional after the match, adding to its greatness. The crowd's reactions to both Superstars, as well as the competitors performances, instigated a rare double-turn in which the characters switched places, Del Rio becoming the heel and Ziggler the beloved babyface. Anytime a match is capable of doing that as effectively as this one did, it is something truly special.
