12 Match Star Ratings For AEW Revolution 2022
9. Chris Jericho Vs. Eddie Kingston
In their big verbal showdown on Dynamite a couple of weeks ago, Eddie Kingston demanded that Chris Jericho show him the Chris Jericho that earned the respect of Genichiro Tenryu.
As if to reiterate that plea, Kingston rocked Jericho right on the crown of the head with a disgusting (awesome) half-and-half suplex. This was the very first move of the match. What a tone it set, Christ. In a ghoulishly physical, super-intense puro-influenced war, the best Chris Jericho match since 2019, Jericho spent the remainder of it punishing Kingston for doubting who he was. The fans were in the line of fire too; this was Jericho responding to growing whispers that he had become redundant, in the wake of the aggressive roster expansion, by entering a killer, selfless effort that could not have done more to accomplish the objective. Jericho was in such outstanding form and radiated such star power that it really felt like Kingston had won the big one.
The struggle to get there made everything feel earned. When he wasn't executing a genuine '90s-tier version of his top rope hurricanrana, he was cutting off and blasting Kingston with Codebreakers and monster suplexes, one of which, a true Kobashi special, was launched from the apron to the outside.
This was Kingston's match, and Jericho was immense in making it feel authentic, fusing his underrated brawling skill with King's Road bombs. Kingston selling his eye injury and disbelief at the finish was just sublime, too.
What a tremendous bit of business.
