6. Rock Bottom: In Your House (1998)

December 1998’s PPV outing was named after The Rock’s finisher. In retrospect, it’s a huge boost to Rocky, and showed that he was very over. What makes the name baffling, however, is that Rock didn’t even main event this show. Instead, his match against Mankind for the WWF title played second fiddle to Steve Austin vs. The Undertaker, which by the end of 1998, was the stalest feud in all of Christendom.

The other tidbit from this show worth mentioning is that it was Michael Cole’s first stint at PPV play-by-play, as Jim Ross was sent home to recover from his Bell’s Palsy. Needless to say, Cole was terrible on commentary, and it left fans salivating for Jim Ross’ return. Strangely, this attitude still remains prevalent in 2017.
