12 Reasons Brock Lesnar Made The Right Move Re-Signing With WWE

2. The Sport Has Evolved

Were it not for a sole exception, this would have been the highest factor on the list. Brock Lesnar made the right decision in retiring because the sport of MMA as a whole has evolved. Here's why: Brock Lesnar exited the UFC during a period of transition. He was the last of a dying breed: not a well-rounded mixed martial artist but a fighter so dominant in one discipline that he could overwhelm opponents using that fighting style. When MMA first came about, that was the sport in a nutshell: wrestlers vs. boxers, kickboxers vs. jiu-jitsu fighters. Lesnar was a wrestler, one of the best the sport has ever seen. He used that, and his freakish athletic ability (he's extremely fast for a heavyweight who had to cut weight to make the division), to win the title. However, today's fighters train in all disciplines. Gone are the days where you can rely on one fighting style to be successful. In that sense, the sport has passed Lesnar by. At this stage in his life he doesn't have the time to really master any more disciplines, and it would certainly limit his potential success in a return.
