12 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About The Royal Rumble
4. Randy Savage Leaping Over The Top And Not Being Eliminated In 1992
The "Macho Man" Randy Savage is one of the best wrestlers ever. He's main eventing the WWE Hall of Fame class this year because of his status as one of the best wrestlers from the 1980s and early 1990s. As we've seen many times over the years, even the great ones make mistakes in wrestling. Savage's blunder took place in the 1992 Rumble match when he entered at #21. His target in the match was Jake Roberts, who he had built up a very personal feud with. As soon as Savage entered the match, he went after Roberts. He nailed Roberts with a double axehandle off the top (a patented Savage move) and then kneed him in the back to eliminate him. It didn't end there as Savage leaped over the top rope and landed on the floor. He should have been eliminated after that. Savage attacked Roberts on the floor until referees were able to break it up. It was a very intense moment. Savage re-entered the match with the announcers saying that since nobody eliminated him he was allowed to go back in. That's not really true, but they had to cover for his error. Savage lasted 22:26 in the match and made it to the final four before being eliminated. Why did he jump over the top like that? It was likely a case of Savage just wanting to show some aggressiveness by going after Roberts outside the ring. He should have just went outside the ring without going over the top. It was an elimination that WWE likely wants us to forget.
