12 Times American Football Crossed Over Into Wrestling

7. Mr. Touchdown

Curiously, no major wrestling promotion has given a wrestler a football-player gimmick (real-life Super Bowl winner 'Mongo' McMichael excepted), but indie promotion Chikara features 'Mr. Touchdown' Mark Angelosetti. As the kind of arrogant jock jerk that every American knew in school (or at least saw in Revenge of the Nerds), Mr. Touchdown is a natural heel. His passing resemblance to the polarizing pretty-boy Patriots quarterback Tom Brady doesn’t hurt either.

Dressed in football tights and pads, The Interception of Perfection carries a ball to the ring, peppers his matches with tackles, and peppers his promos with the word, “nerd” (which he uses to address his opponents and the fans). The Gridiron Grappler even had his own personal cheerleader for some time.

If you’re at all familiar with Chikara and its associated promotions, however, you’ll know that Mr. Touchdown is nowhere near the most outlandish gimmick around. Case in point: Angelosetti once won the tag team titles with the masked old-timey baseball player Dasher Hatfield before losing the championships to Blaster McMassive and Max Smashmaster.
