12 Times Wrestlers Failed To Make It Into The Royal Rumble Match

9. Headbanger Mosh - 1999

One year after his partner lasted a solid half hour without doing anything of note, Headbanger Mosh failed to even make it out to the ring. With 10 men already entered in the 1999 Royal Rumble, the crowd at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim eagerly awaited number one. The buzzer sounded, but nobody seemed to be coming out. A no-show, perchance?

The camera quickly cut to backstage, where Mabel was throwing Mosh around like a baby seal in the clutches of a particularly emotionless orca. 1999 WWE was a hellacious place, where rules were rarely abided by and competitors could decide on a whim to steal the Royal Rumble spots of innocent Headbangers.

Things wouldn't go too hot for Mabel either, in truth. After eliminating five men in less than two minutes, the man who would become Viscera found himself ejected from the match by Bradshaw, Faarooq, and Mideon, before being taken to the back to become the newest member of The Undertaker's Ministry of Darkness.

Blame Mosh.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
