12 Ups & 0 Downs From AEW Dynamite (Jul 22)

6. The Undefeated One

MJF Griff Garrison
AEW

This is how you elevate a straightforward squash match.

MJF was at his best here: by that, we mean his worst. Prime d*ckhead form. Pure heel. First he bullied poor Griff Garrison on the microphone, faking sincerity as he asked "Jungle Man" to tell him something about himself, leading Griff to eventually point out that MJF is no longer undefeated. This infuriated 'The Salt of the Earth.' He jumped Garrison and a prolonged beatdown stretched through a commercial break, with MJF repeatedly calling himself "The Undefeated One" as he put the hurt on his overmatched opponent, growing progressively angrier as it went.

The closing sequence saw MJF trap Garrison's hand under his boot and insist Griff call him "undefeated." Garrison did, and a surprise roll-up yielded a close two before he got beaten the hell up, leading to a loss via Heatseeker piledriver.

Few things are as satisfying as good squash done well. MJF has rarely looked like as big a bully as he did here, prolonging Griff's agony when he could have put him away in seconds.
