12 Ups & 1 Down From Impact Wrestling (May 26)
2. Trey Triumphs
In terms of pure in-ring action alone, Michael Elgin vs. Trey was obviously the best match of the evening. Had it not been for the chaos that was The North vs. Cody Deaner and Wheels, this would have been the best Up from the show.
As is typically the case whenever 'Big Mike' battles smaller opponents, the Canadian beast unleashed a mixture of power and strike-based offence, including a stiff forearm to Trey's jaw that very easily could have been the winning move. Trey's trademark high-flying offence was the only thing keeping him going throughout this one, as he was able to nimbly evade Elgin's array of suplexes.
The only thing that was bad about this match is the fact that Sami Callihan hacked into the broadcast feed momentarily as Elgin was setting up for the Elgin Bomb, with his ICU logos appearing on the screen. It opened the door for Trey to counter into a jackknife rollup to meet Ace Austin in the finals next week. A slightly tainted victory for Trey, but at least it offered a surprising result.
Now, we've got another bout in the Trey vs. Ace saga to look forward to, as well as a potential Elgin vs. Callihan match in the near future judging by what happened here.
