12 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite: Bash At The Beach (Jan 15)

6. Relighting The Fuse

Jon Moxley
AEW

Jon Moxley is the perfect guy to book immediately after an atmosphere-destroying match like The Nightmare Collective vs. Statlander and Shida because the man's so goddamn electric. He's a kinetic bad*ss so brimming with bellicose energy that he can turn almost any building around, and that's pretty much what he did opposite Sammy Guevara.

Enhanced by the wrinkle of last week's Inner Circle betrayal, the match was a hoot. Moxley showed up in his shiny new car (a moment that could've only been better if the thing was a rolling wreck, though it's hard to see Shahid Khan, the owner, consenting) before coming through the crowd. Guevara, meanwhile, flirted with Vanessa Hudgens via cue cards while Dynamite ran commercials. Both entrances are becoming important parts of their respective characters.

A nice moment saw Guevara eat crow for that spot that sees him climb the top rope, only to come down and slap his opponent's face. Moxley popped up on him, surprising the 'Spanish God,' who later nailed Mox with a Meteora on the apron and brained a box of popcorn off his head.

Guevara looked great in defeat. Allowed to showcase his skills and character, his recent winning streak came to an end when Moxley trapped him in a rear-naked choke, rather than hitting his usual Paradigm Shift. A smart move, and another avenue to victory in future matches, provided Moxley established the choke as his thing.
