12 Ups & 4 Downs From AEW Dynamite: Bash At The Beach (Jan 15)
3. Forgotten Feuds
A big flaw in AEW's storytelling mechanism is the promotion's tendency to start a feud one week, then randomly forget about it soon after. They do this all the time. It's frustrating, and something WWE are lambasted for all the time, so the same criticisms need to be applied here.
Remember when Dustin Rhodes was "out for blood" in his war with Jake Hager, who broke his arm? We've had a brawl or two since then and nothing else. Is this even still an ongoing storyline? If so, why has Dustin moved on without resolving it?
PAC stretched Michael Nakazawa to the point of unconsciousness to try and goad Kenny Omega into a rubber match last week. Sure, both men have other targets to aim for at the moment, but how about a little follow-up?
It's a similar story with Joey Janela, who appeared to brush Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford off before challenging Rey Fenix last night.
The Elite's issues with The Inner Circle have never been explored to a satisfactory degree. The same goes for their beef with The Dark Order.
If these stories are still ongoing then the bookers haven't done the best job of keeping them bubbling away in the background. Rather than delivering incremental escalations before resuming them full-time, it feels like they've been forgotten about.
