There are phrases that any of us who watch Raw or SmackDown with the volume up hear repeatedly. While you might have thought it was just Michael Cole and Tom Phillips who were infected, fear not, the disease is spreading.

During the WWE Cruiserweight Championship match in the kickoff show, the announcers used the term “building momentum” multiple times in just a few short minutes. It was obnoxious, and it raises a question: What the hell does “building momentum” even mean? Sure, if you’re on a winning streak heading into a PPV, you’ve got momentum on your side. But WWE announcers use it as if winning a solitary bout before a PPV or hit two moves in a row during a match, you’ve successfully built momentum.

Consider this “down” a jab at some of WWE’s persistent and overused phrases, which when used sparingly can make sense, but are noticeable and annoying with the frequency they’re spouted on WWE programming.
