12 Wrestlers With Terrible Backstories

3. Zeus

Decades after the release of No Holds Barred, and no one can still make sense out of Zeus. Many have tried. All have failed.

Zeus was played by actor Tiny Lister, but when Lister came to the World Wrestling Federation, he was Zeus, his character from the film. This guy was mad at Hulk Hogan because in the movie he lost to him. Didn’t he read the script before signing up for the role?

Anyway, he was so infuriated by this writing decision that he wanted to beat up Hulk in real life, but as far as we knew, he hadn’t actually wrestled in his entire life. He was just some actor who before that had small roles in movies like Beverly Hills Cop 2, and then went on to play a wrestler in a film.

Hogan and Lister had a couple of atrocious tag matches against each other, and then he left the company for good. Two years later he showed up on an episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, where he put over Will Smith.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
