12 WWE PPVs With TWO Unsatisfactory World Title Matches
11. Royal Rumble 2006 (Edge Vs. John Cena; Kurt Angle Vs. Mark Henry)
Thanks to the introduction of brand-exclusive pay-per-views in 2003, here we are a little over three years after Armageddon 2002.
When people think of Edge and John Cena in January 2006, there's one moment that comes to everyone's mind first. And I can guarantee you: it's NOT this match!
After the huge success that was Edge's Money in the Bank cash-in at New Year's Revolution earlier that month, 'The Rated R Superstar's inaugural run with the gold immediately came to an end just three weeks after that unforgettable night. These two had many classic matches later that year and beyond, but this was easily the weakest pay-per-view bout from an otherwise epic rivalry.
What can't be described as epic in any way, shape, or form, though, is Kurt Angle's World Title defense against Mark Henry from that night's main event.
The two had a slow, boring, plodding match that ended abruptly with a 'sleep on a banana peel' finish, which saw Henry run into the turnbuckle right before getting rolled up.
Most people only remember the angle between Angle and The Undertaker that followed this match, which began the build to their awesome match at the following month's No Way Out, and rightfully so.
