Who? If you werent watching WWE television between 2001 and 2003, then you probably missed seeing this guy in the ring. He first appeared as a member of the first Tough Enough program. He was one of the three finalists on that show along with Josh Matthews, but wound up falling just short of winning to Maven. Eventually WWE hired the guy anyway, and in June of 2002 Nowinski made his debut by helping William Regal retain the European Championship. So what made Nowinski so special? Well he was the first professional wrestler who had been a graduate of Harvard University. While there, he earned a bachelors degree in Sociology. Why the heck would a Harvard graduate become a professional wrestler? Because he simply loves the business. And when he chose to retire from wrestling after suffering from concussion symptoms for over a year, Nowinski didnt just give up on sports entertainment. From there he wrote a book titled Head Games: Footballs Concussion Crisis which talks about how dangerous concussions are in football as well as other high contact sports including professional wrestling. Thanks to his book, which has since been turned into a documentary, Nowinski has become a valuable asset in furthering the study of concussions on the brain. He became co-founder and President of the Sports Legacy Institute, an organization dedicated to medical research on brain trauma. Thanks to Nowinski, people suffering from issues relating to head trauma are getting the help they need. Now thats using your head. Are there any other wrestlers who are smarter than they look? Or are they all just a bunch of dummies? Feel free to discuss in the comments below.
