Former WWWF Champion Ivan Koloff had himself a career renaissance in the NWA alongside his kayfabe nephew Nikita, but the Russian Bear was getting on in years. The Koloffs imported Barry Darsow, future Demolition Smash and Repo Man, as Krusher Kruschev. Despite a rivalry with the Road Warriors, the Russians would be dethroned by the Rock 'n' Roll Express.
Kruschev and Ivan would go on to win the NWA US Tag Team Championship, but Nikita had learned to love America by then.
