13 Biggest Matches WWE Should've Booked In The 80s (But Didn't)

8. Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat Vs. "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase

When Ted DiBiase debuted for the World Wrestling Federation in late 1987, Ricky Steamboat already had one foot out the door, albeit unknowingly. Steamboat was given a huge push and heavy exposure by winning the Intercontinental Championship from Randy Savage at WrestleMania III in front of a record-setting crowd. Shortly after receiving this great honor, Steamboat then did the ultimate Vince McMahon faux pas of asking for time off as he wanted to spend more time with his wife as she prepared to give birth. This greatly upset Vince and Ricky Steamboat's name was forever tarnished in the owner's eyes, causing irreparable damage to his WWF career. Had Steamboat handled things differently, he could've been in line for an even bigger push over the next few years, including a program with the WWF's top heel, "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase. Unfortunately, The Dragon was gone from the company shortly following WrestleMania IV, which featured Ted DiBiase competing for the WWF Championship in the main event. Steamboat did return to the Federation in 1991 under the fire-breathing "The Dragon" gimmick but it contained no mention or reference to his previous run in the company. Although they did face each other in the first round of the non-televised 1991 King Of The Ring tournament (link below), it was far from a big time program and Steamboat would never again reach the stardom that he had previously experienced working for Vince. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x93v9r_ricky-steamboat-vs-ted-dibiase_sport
