13. Triple H

8-time WWE Champion; 5-time World Heavyweight Champion Co-Founder of DX 2002 Royal Rumble Winner 1997 King of the Ring There are few in the business as assured a spot in the WWE Hall of Fame as Triple H. Let's face it, if he'd have married Stephanie McMahon, we probably would have seen Buff Bagwell in the Hall of Fame. But, the reason behind him entering will not be due to his marital ties, but to the lasting legacy that he has left on the business in general. Trained by the late Hall of Famer Killer Kowalski, Hunter Hearst Helmsley debuted in the WWE in 1995 as the 'Connecticut Blueblood', and immediately was destined for success as a heel. But, as the WWE transitioned in the late 1990s into an edgier, true-to-life form, Triple H and his longtime friend Shawn Michaels formed the radical stable Degeneration-X. This group would challenge authority in crass and entertaining fashion, with in many ways was the catalyst for the Attitude Era. With Michaels injured in 1998, Triple H was thrust into the limelight, and soon took on a new demeanour. Shedding the DX green, he began to establish himself as the aptly named 'Cerebral Assassin', a vindictive and calculating competitor that would put everything on the line and would use every method possible to first become champion and then maintain his reign. He became one of the most hated wrestlers on the roster, especially with his first championship reign in 1999, and would become notorious for his use of a sledgehammer. His relationship with Stephanie McMahon began simply as a storyline that catapulted the two to new heights of abuse from the audience, and made Triple H the most important heel in the company. His feuds with the Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin were emphatic in displaying the Game's ability to wrestle in perfect sync with his opponent and headline a card with some of the biggest in the industry. The years between 1999 and 2005 saw him at the peak of his career, and he therefore spent the majority of that time at the top of the business. He was able to align himself with one of the greatest of all time in Ric Flair, as well as being a launching pad for the careers of Randy Orton and Batista. Triple H has had to overcome numerous obstacles in his career. Twice he has had to come back from serious quadriceps injuries, the first in 2001 almost costing him his career as he was reaching his peak. His relationship with the daughter of Vince McMahon raised questions of favouritism, which though have the semblance of truth seem to disrespect the ability and rapport that Triple H has created with the crowd in his career. The fact of the matter is that he has been given the moniker of 'The King of Kings' for a reason, and that is because he has proven that he is one of the best the company has ever produced. Passionate on the microphone as he is in the ring, and with one of the most identifiable entrances in history, Triple H is an utter certainty for the Hall of Fame. His links to the company are rapidly approaching two decades, and few deserve the honor more than him.
