12. The Rock’s Debut

Almost 20 years ago—to the day—we witnessed the debut of one of the most iconic stars in wrestling history, as the Rock made his first-ever WWE appearance at Madison Square Garden in 1996.

Of course, the Rock of ’96 wasn’t quite the same Rock that we’ve come to know and love today. Initially he went by the name Rocky Maivia, and he was kitted out in some slightly less flattering gear. He was also so green that he completely forgot where the hardcam was, and ended up entering the ring with his back to us all. Not the greatest of starts, then…

Obviously with the benefit of hindsight, this becomes a pretty special moment in time, given what Rocky’s since gone on to achieve. But even back then this was a memorable arrival, as the Rock not only managed to finish his match as his team’s sole survivor, but he picked up the final two eliminations after finding himself in a two-versus-one situation.

For the historical significance, plus the impressive performance once he got down to business, I’d say this one deserves a spot on the list. Plus, when he’s rocking that pineapple cut up top, it’s fairly difficult to overlook him.
