9. The Undertaker Defeats Hulk Hogan - Survivor Series 1991
Let’s set the scene for this one.
Back in 1991, it’s fair to say that Hulk Hogan didn’t really lose too often. Heading into that year’s Survivor Series, he was enjoying his third reign as WWF Champion and had racked up an impressive 2,086 cumulative days with the belt in tow.
Meanwhile, the Undertaker was something of a relative rookie, having only made his debut with the company some 370 days prior at the 1990 Survivor Series. Admittedly he’d been portrayed as a pretty dominant force, but I’m not sure anyone actually fancied his chances of beating the immortal Hulk Hogan for the title.
And yet that’s exactly what happened in the Joe Louis Arena at the 1991 Survivor Series, thanks largely to some interference from Ric Flair. Touting himself as the “real” world’s champion, Flair made his way to ringside before sliding a steel chair into the ring, allowing ‘Taker to hit his Tombstone to Hogan right onto the steel.
Undertaker swiftly picked up the 1-2-3 to claim his maiden WWF Championship, and in doing so seal an historic win over the industry’s biggest star. And for the purposes of this article, I’m just going to overlook the fact that he lost the title less than a week later…
